Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Monday April 6, 2020 that steps are being taken to ensure that Floridians can file for unemployment benefits after the Department of Economic Opportunity had major issues supporting the volume of users. More than 2,000 non-essential government employees who are not currently working in their usual roles have also been identified to be redirected to help the DOE handle calls regarding unemployment claims, the governor said. These employees will be trained to take calls from individuals looking to file for unemployment benefits. Gov. DeSantis also announced 250 additional people will begin work Monday at 7:30 a.m. while an additional 500 people are being trained to begin work on Tuesday April 7th.
While Gov. DeSantis improvements help make it easier for Floridians to file for unemployment benefits this solution may not be the answer for everyone. For the people that are currently unemployed or have received fewer hours due to COVID-19, being without credit or any financial help it may be hard to find the money for everyday essentials.
So where can you get fast cash now?
Payday lenders, title lenders and pawnshops all market their services to borrowers who lack other options for fast cash. Of the three, Pawnshop loans can appeal to consumers who can’t qualify for a conventional loan. They may cost less than the penalty for being late with a credit card payment or a reconnect fee for utilities.
Pawn Shops, which are state and federally regulated has been deemed as an essential business under Gov. Ron DeSantis current “Safer at Home Order” executive order shutting down nonessential businesses in a bid to stop the spread of the virus.
